Turnpike Bridge and Low Road Culvert

Turnpike Bridge and Low Road Culvert - Huntingdon Road & Low Road, Fenstanton - Bridge/Culvert Replacement Works

Major bridge works to replace Turnpike Bridge, Huntingdon Road and Low Road Culvert, Low Road, Fenstanton are expected to take around 26 weeks to complete.

Minor works are planned to start on site on 9th January 2017 in order to carry out the accommodation works for BT and Virgin utilities.

It is anticipated that the main works will commence on or around 6th February 2017.

Closure of the road and junction will be required for 3 weeks from 22nd April until 14th May 2017, as well as two prior weekends and one subsequent weekend, while piling, beam installation and installation of both structures takes place. Notifications of diversion routes will be published in due course.

One final weekend closure will be required to undertake the surfacing towards the end of the scheme, planned for the 24th/25th June 2017. Advanced signage will be erected well in advance of any closures.

The proposed main works of the scheme will include the following

- Demolishing the existing superstructure in two halves under suitable traffic management retaining the abutments & wing walls which are to be repaired as necessary or as required,

- Carrying out the construction of the proposed replacement structure in two halves under suitable traffic management, except for the piling and precast beam installation which are to be carried out under a full road closure,

- Allowing for suitable protection to the affected utility services and working with the respective service owner to enable their temporary and/or permanent diversions,

- Erecting and maintaining a temporary footbridge to the north for the duration of works to maintain pedestrian access and to accommodate diverted utility services,

- Demolishing Low Road Culvert and replacing with box culvert under a full road closure.
