Fenstanton Capability Brown 300

Mission Statement

The aim of our village committee is to welcome visitors to the parishes of Fenstanton and Hilton and enabling and informing them to see the only land that Capability Brown actually owned and the place where he, his wife and some of his family are laid to rest.

This will be achieved in 2016 by:

- Installing information boards in Fenstanton Church on his life and village connections and

- Preparing a guide to a short walk around the village with places connected to Brown pointed out.

Later, we hope to install:

- A plaque outside the front of the church as a lasting legacy with places of interest marked on an overlay of the map that Brown himself commissioned. It will also depict a radial map naming and linking the 33 known local Brown sites within a 50-mile radius

- New village signs for both parishes informing people that they are entering Capability Brown's Manor.

We will also join with the Parish Church Council in raising money towards the repairs and renovation of his memorial in the chancel.

We are planning various fund raising events during 2015 and have a programme of events planned to celebrate the tercentenary during 2016. These will be updated on our Diary of Events.
