Fenstanton Football Club - another successful year ends!

Posted: 11/05/2014

The football season has finally come to an end but not without ending on a high note!

The First Team recorded their highest ever finish by securing 3rd place in the Cambs Kershaw Senior A League, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Kershaw Premier League.

But instead of dwelling on what could have been, 2 days after their last league match, they beat Great Paxton in the final of the Cambs William Cockell Memorial Cup on Bank Holiday Monday at Histon FC, in a match that was labelled as "perfect" by Manager Dom Moody.

Fenstanton applied pressure throughout the 1st half and finally found the back of the net on 30 minutes when midfielder Adam Berrill turned the ball in to the bottom right corner of the goal from close range. Two minutes later, winger Luke Ackerman lobbed the ball beating Paxton's keeper, but Chris Collett tapped the ball in on the line, claiming the glory. The 1st half was rounded up when Captain Josh Turner hammered the ball into the top corner from about 20 yards out.

Great Paxton tried to fight back in the 2nd half, but after Michael Millward was dismissed for his 2nd yellow card, Fenstanton sealed the victory when substitute David Anderson headed an Adam Peachey cross into the roof of the net on 80 minutes. This was the club's 9th piece of silverware since 2005-06!

The Reserve Team unfortunately didn't manage to win anything this season, or gain promotion to the next division, but they did finish in 8th position, safely securing their future in the Cambs NMC League Division 3B. Manager Mark Buckingham said "It's been an up and down season and I'm disappointed with the way it ended, but work has already started on next term, in the hope we learn from our mistakes and get promoted to Division 2B"
