HUGE WIND TURBINE THREAT TO FENSTANTON!.

Posted: 30/10/2011

Proposed Galley Hill Farm Giant Wind Turbine 77m High (253 Feet)

ARE YOU AWARE OF WHAT COULD SOON BE BUILT IN OUR OWN BACK YARD?

See below to understand the true scale of the problem!

You probably don’t know this, but planning application has been submitted for a giant 77m high wind turbine at the old Galley Hill Farm site (located between the Gravel Pit nature reserve in Marsh Lane and the A14 St. Ives junction). The planning application for the proposed giant wind turbine has already been approved by Hemingford Grey Parish Council. A final decision will be taken later this year by Huntingdonshire District Council, as to whether the application will go ahead.

SPECIAL NOTE: Having only just been informed, Fenstanton Parish Council will be discussing this application at the next full Parish Meeting to be held at Fenstanton School on Thursday November 10th 2011. Members of the Public are urged to attend.

The applicant, Boparan Invesments were granted planning permission for an intensive poultry farm last year (8 broiler houses) The company is a subsiduary of the food empire owned by the 2 Sisters poultry group who are one of the biggest chicken processors in Europe, supplying to Tescos, Sainsburys, KFC and M&S among others. They also bought out Northern Foods this year.

There will be approx 320,000 broilers (240,000 after thinning), on an all in/all out basis on a 6 week cycle per flock with the giant wind turbine providing intermittent power for the intensive farming process. The wind turbine will generate additional commercial power, fed back into the national grid for the company’s own financial gain at 4 times the standard rate (‘feed in’ tariff). It should also be noted that Boparan have also applied for 18 large above ground storage tanks for housing 37 Tonnes of LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) which will be sited close to the A14. This will be used to supplement the operational needs when the wind turbine is dormant in certain weather conditions.

THERE ARE MANY VALID REASONS AS TO WHY THE GIANT WIND TURBINE SHOULD NOT BE LOCATED AND BUILT AT THE PROPOSED GALLEY FARM SITE SO NEAR OUR VILLAGE AND THE A14. SAVE OUR VILLAGE SKYLINE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME, ACT NOW BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE...

The application for the giant wind turbine and the LPG storage tanks are still pending further consideration. IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO SAY NO! If you wish to object to the wind turbine and/or the LPG storage tanks you can email your objections directly to:
