And Finally … Burglary Prevention Advice
Now that summer is here, the warmer weather brings opportunities for burglars to take advantage of open windows, doors left unlocked, and people spending more time in their gardens.

Police advise that we follow these steps to avoid becoming a victim of burglary:

• Lock all doors and windows when not in the house;

• Don’t leave valuables on display;

• Lock outbuildings and sheds;

• Report any suspicious activity, using the 101 non-emergency number or the on-line reporting tool on the police web-site.

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 9th to 15th May:

Cambridge Road, Fenstanton – Someone managed to get inside a white Transit van which had been left locked and secure in a car-park on Cambridge Road and damaged the ignition barrel in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle, fortunately unsuccessful, at some time overnight on Tuesday 11th / Wednesday 12th May. Recruitment and training of police officers in Cambridgeshire is changing and a new scheme called the Policing Education Qualifications Framework is being introduced. As part of this, the Constabulary is now running a Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) programme.

Under the PCDA, new entrants will be entered onto a 3-year degree apprenticeship run by Anglia Ruskin University, involving a combination of class learning and on-the-job experience. Tuition fees will be paid by the police and recruits will also be paid a salary whilst they learn.

The recruitment scheme has now been extended until the end of May. More details are on the police web-site at:

9 May 2021 – Weekly Police Report – Fenstanton District

Weekly Policing Update – Fenstanton District

Good Afternoon, Fenstanton District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 3rd to 8th May:

The Fen, Fenstanton – A silver VW car was stolen from the driveway of a house at The Fen at sometime overnight on Wednesday 5th / Thursday 6th May. (Ref 35/27223/21)

And Finally – Accidental 999 Calls:
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Cambridgeshire Police say that they spent in the region of 6 hours dealing with accidental 999 calls where the number was either inadvertently dialled from a mobile phone in a pocket, or was made by children larking around.

All 999 calls need to be investigated to make sure that everyone is safe, and when the number has been dialled in error or as a joke, this takes time and diverts resources that could be used on a genuine emergency.

Police say: “We appreciate that mistakes can happen, so if you do accidentally call us, please explain the situation to us rather than just hanging up the phone”.
