Outgoing District Councillor

Posted: 07/04/2008

At the July meeting of the Parish Council, which was the first full meeting following the elections of 10th June, the Chairman formally welcomed Fenstanton's new District Councillor, Jean Chandler to the meeting. He then went on to state that he hoped that the Parish Council could enjoy a satisfactory working relationship with Councillor Chandler, as has been the case over a number of years now and promised to ensure that she was kept fully occupied with issues that the Parish Council would bring to her attention.

The Chairman then thanked the outgoing Councillor, Mark Rainer, for his time in office and for the commitment that he had shown during this time to the parish in general and to all of the parishioners.

The Chairman wishes to add these further comments

"When anybody, who gives up a vast amount of their personal time for the benefit of others is suddenly faced with the prospect of now no longer being required, even though that is something that is expected when standing for election, it is still a bitter pill to swallow.

No doubt Mark must have thought that "nobody wants me anymore". This is not actually the case, in fact Mark only "lost" the election by 60 votes, which in itself is a reflection of the amount of voters who actually thought that he was doing a good job. The Parish Council, as a whole, thought that he was doing a good job and as the council is strictly non-political we welcomed his input to matters relating to the parish.

Mark represented the electorate to the best of his ability, showing dedication to the cause and care for all concerned and for this he should be sincerely thanked.

I know that Mark will not now just sit back and take a well earned rest from public duties, he will continue with his interests in parish matters and no doubt will support the Parish Council in pursuing items that need the attention of the District Council."
