Want to be a District Councillor - find out more....

Posted: 31/10/2017

The District Council will be holding whole Council elections on 3 May 2018 for all 52 seats based upon new District Ward boundaries, currently 29 District Wards being reduced to 26 District Wards.

In light of this, the Council will be running a ‘Be a councillor’ event on Wednesday, 15 November 2017 at 7.00pm being held in the Civic Suite, Pathfinder House, Huntingdon. This event is to encourage residents and those who work in the District to find out what being a local Councillor entails. There will be presentations by the Managing Director, Executive Leader and other Senior Officers addressing attendees on matters including how the Council works, how decisions are taken, importance of the Code of Conduct. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to get further advice on the election/nomination process, support available to councillors, councillor remuneration, IT support etc.

Representatives of political parties will be in attendance to offer an informal session via a ‘market stall’ approach after the presentation where they can provide further information in encouraging attendees to get involved. Information will also be provided for attendees interested in standing as an Independent candidate.

Please note that the microsite www.beacouncillor.co.uk/huntingdonshire is currently under construction and will be live before the event.
