Join the march on 30th April to save our hospital

A public march has been arranged by me for Saturday 30 April starting at 10am at Riverside Park, by the boathouse in Huntingdon. The route will be along the High Street, through to George Street and Brampton Road before concluding at the hospital itself.

Earlier this year Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust and Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announced a collaborative working agreement between the two Trusts.

Whilst I welcomed sensible collaboration I voiced my concerns that in this situation a review of ‘potential organisation form’ seemed to imply a takeover of Hinchingbrooke Hospital by Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

The concerns are that Peterborough would move services from Hinchingbrooke which could lead to sustainability issues.

I recently met with the Chairmen of Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals to discuss the current proposals and the impact on Hinchingbrooke. The outcome of that meeting was confirmation that a merger is still very much on the table, something I remain vehemently opposed to.

It is clear that the two Trust boards are still forging ahead with their plans for a merger and that we must therefore now step up the campaign to save Hinchingbrooke’s services and retain its independence.

I am planning to lead a march through Huntingdon town centre to Hinchingbrooke Hospital to show the strength of feeling locally against the planned merger.

The march is open to all who care about our local hospital and has the sole aim of demonstrating to the board of Hinchingbrooke Hospital the level of support for the hospital’s independence.

Please join me and other local campaigners on 30 April in Huntingdon to demonstrate against these proposals.

Local residents can also continue to support the campaign by signing the petition

Yours sincerely
Jonathan Djanogly MP
