Fenstanton Dairy at risk of closure

Posted: 12/11/2009

The interim results of Dairy Crest have been published today [12th November 2009] showing half-yearly profits of £38.1M source

Despite making a profit 9% up on the previous period, they intend to cut costs which could have a serious effect on the community esp. the 38 persons who depend upon this major local employer for their livelihoods.

In the report, under the section "Cutting Costs" the Chief Executive, Mark Allen, said:

"We continue to implement further cost reduction measures with a view to driving efficiency. For example we have contracted out milk collection for our Davidstow creamery, have changed our media buying agency and have recently started consultation on the closure of the glass bottling operation at our Fenstanton dairy."

Furthermore, dramatic changes to the pension scheme are to be implimented.
